STUDY RANKS TENNESSEE, VIRGINIA HIGH IN FEMALE MURDER VICTIM RATES

BRISTOL --Both Tennessee and Virginia rank among the nation's top 5 for the rate of women killed by men, according to a new Violence Policy Center report.
The VPC report stated for every 100,000 women in Tennessee, 1.91 are murdered by males, putting the state at No. 3 in the nation.
In Virginia, according to the VPC report, 1.77 women (per 100,000) are murdered by males: the state ranks No. 5 overall among the 50 states.
The annual report - titled "When Men Murder Women" - used data from numerous national and state sources, including the Federal Bureau of Investigation.
The top 5 states in female victim/male offender murder rates are:
1. Nevada (2.62 per 100,000);
2. South Carolina (1.94 per 100,000);
3. Tennessee;
4. Louisiana (1.86 per 100,000);
5. Virginia.
The VPC issues an annual report on female murder victims to coincide with Domestic Violence Awareness Month during October.
