HERNDON, Va. - The man who detectives say has been posing as a police officer and sexually assaulting women in Herndon has been arrested.
Detectives were trailing 31-year-old Thomas Kim of Herndon Monday when he went out trolling for victims. Investigators say he approached three women while they were watching him. When one of the women got in the car with him, officers quickly moved in and made an arrest.
Kim is now facing charges of sexual assault, abduction, impersonating a law enforcement officer, and use of a firearm in commission of a felony. Those charges stem from two incidents on October 11, one at 3:45 p.m. and the other at 7 p.m. In both cases, he showed the victim a badge, implied he had a weapon, and sexually assaulted them.
Investigators say Kim is a suspect in several other assaults.
"Right now, we're looking at him in connection with seven cases," Captain Larry Presgrave says.
"The cases aren't complete yet. They're still open and active. Anyone who may have had contact with Kim should call us right away."
Kim is being held at the Fairfax County Detention Center without bond.
